Happy Wednesday

My dad was a photography enthusiast at a point. For whatever reason he bought a heavy SLR when his friends were buying compact cameras years ago before the hype of digital cameras hit the market. I think he got this before I was born. Work and life in general reduced the use of the camera and now even holiday photos are taken by the compact point & shoot. I have lots of free time and I am seriously interested in learning photography. I will be experimenting with my dad's SLR.. I don't have a scanner so I won't post anything even if the end result turns out good enough. I hope to learn. Give me any tips you can.

He also has a 52mm lens to go with it. I have taken pictures with this before. But it was always too heavy for me and I often ended up taking headless photos because of my height!! I didn't feeel it this time when I took a few photos today at 7 am.
Have you ever gone up to your roof so early on a crisp morning and seen the orange sun? It was beautiful and the wind was just crisp and chilly enough to gently soothe me somehow.
Hope you all are having a great time :)

The Best Thing

Love yourself every day.
Smile at least two times during a day.
Listen to loud music whenever the mood strikes.
Read something you like as often as you can.
Love the work you do.
Look in the mirror and say, "I am a good person."
Laugh like a child.
Appreciate awesomeness.
Compliment others and mean them.
Watch movies that make you feel good.
Be inspired by the genius that surrounds you.
Plan a trip.
Smile some more before going to sleep and think of the happy things in your life(even if you had a bad day)
Cry a little before you can smile if need be.
Do something you love and enjoy it.
Have faith.

Finally Winter

Winter is coming. December winds will be blowing in 4 days. I hope the temperature keeps falling. We have major outings planned for this month. I finally painted my nails again after a break (yes I was lazy with all the exams around).

red and green toes- in the Christmas mood already ;-) (Colorama- Rubi and Verde Palmeira)
ignore the silver dripping( Colorama-Prateado Metalico)

My aunt gifted me this lip colour this week. I hate browns usually. But this was so soft and creamy that I think this would be my first brown. (Avon Glazewear- Milk Chocolate)

Hope you all had a great time with your families and loved ones. :-D
Happy Chilly days guys! Cuddle under your blankets on Sunday or bask in the warm sunshine! Whatever you do, don't forget a crispy warm smile!

Behind the Digicam

I keep saying I am a US size 12-14 but I don't think I look that big in most of my posts. The reason behind that is the poses I am in. As you know I use a very basic Sony Point and Shoot camera without a tripod or even a remote control. I have to discard atleast 20 shots every time I put up 1 decent enough photo. Then I need to correct the colour so that the clothes are looking as close to reality as possible. Sue Bryce of  "Inside The Glamour Studio" has been doing these blog posts on how curvy girls (or as I like calling myself- fat girls with sass) can be shot beautifully. I have thought of doing a similar thing with my own photos before and now I am just going for it.
So, I have a tummy and I have huge thighs and big arms, my double chin is hidden only in some angled shots and those are the ones that are featured on my blog. Most often due to closer proximity with the camera lens and better focus they are the shots with best quality and don't need any retouching. I like softer tones rather than the harsh ones that come off in the camera and I obviously photoshop the photos like hell!
You remember this shot?
How many of my outfit posts have me in this same posture? 80% of them!
Now this was an experiment to get a shot on the road outside of the room. I know looking at the boring yellow wall in every outfit post can get monotonous. But the experiment failed. Firstly, the afternoon harsh sunlight was all wrong. Secondly, with the thought of neighbours watching I got super awkward. And the result was a not blogging material.  But I still  think I looked good that day. I know my hair is not in place, I know I should have tied the front(which I did later), I know I should have smiled (which I was doing the rest of the time).

This particular one is the best example of how I look from different angles and different distance from the lens.
See how my body looks different in the different positions? I like emphasizing the waist in the photos to create the idea of a curvy shape. It is not possible to do so all the time of course nor is there a necessity to suck in the tummy. I love myself no matter what.
I have a few other photos I can share. How did you like this post? Do you have several flattering positions you like taking photos of? Or do you tend to get stuck in a comfort zone? I like to show of the whole outfit as best as I can with my limited resources. Do you do the same?

Have a great day :-)

Marc Jacobs Robbed!

I read such a ridiculous and crazy news that I had to share. Marc Jacobs, the American fashion designer who owns his own line Marc Jacobs and helped change the fortunes of brand LV was forced to cancel his European press tour to be held on Thursday because his entire Spring-Summer collection en route from Paris to London was stolen!!
That news came from his fashion house to the media. Merchandise worth $63,000 went missing and it was reported by telephone to the London Metropolitan Police, who are currently investigating the theft. They were sample pieces so they don't have much market value but it means the British fashion editors won't be able to sample Jacob's next year's collection.

First his perfume ad with Dakota Fanning gets banned in England and now this. That ad was accused of sexualising children. You can see for yourself here the "Oh Lola" ad. The flower shaped bottle between her thighs and the obvious reference to Nabokov's novel is quite clear. Fanning is 17, so she isn't exactly a child unlike 11 year old Thylane Blondeau, but aren't there models of age who could have done the job? It wouldn't have created enough controversy and that's a sale point I guess. I don't see the necessity of putting up suggesting images of children out there. A huge number of people who were outrage saw something which they chose not to see maybe? Their best defence was there's something wrong with the people who notice any sexualisation. I say these people like me realised there are pedophiles out there who will see it for what it is and there's where the outrage came from. It is very easy to warp the minds of a child. But of course it comes down to the parents/guardians of children at the end of the day as to how much a child is exposed to the adult world. With huge number of child molestation cases all over the world it is evident children need to be protected much more and with more caution.

I am a huge fan of Dakota's acting abilities and I have not seen any crazy young Hollywood syndrome in her. I am not really very offended at this campaign. Definitely not as much as programs like "Toddlers and Tiaras" make me feel. They make me want to poke my eyes out and put those crazy parents under house arrest. Stop exploiting your children, stop ruining their childhood, go get a real job.

P.S.- I increased the width of the blog page because it always looked so crammed up.

Fashion & Photography

I know all of us, who have developed a love for fashion, like sifting through fashion magazines and admiring the things we see. We know we can never afford half the things there but still who is to stop us from getting inspired. These photos are not just clothes hanging on a model. Some of them are put together by some of the best creative artists and the model is the canvas. A mannequin can't tell the same story a human can. Some of the best photographers are responsible for making us gasp at that shot we know we will bookmark to go back to later. You don't have to wear the exact things you see on these glossy pages. In fact I believe we should take lots of inspiration from them and even those who can afford these without sacrificing (let's say) lunch for a month or falling back on rent should get absolutely creative with similar (or same) pieces. When you put together such an outfit your original style sensibility shines through and getting a compliment on such an outfit feels absolutely amazing.
So without further jibber-jabber I want to show some such shots where you admire the whole deal and get lots of inspiration from them.

P.S- In other news the yahoomail id I had used to create this blog was hacked last week. I got a bunch of mails, all of them saying the password was changed. I realised it was compromised and deactivated it as soon as I got access again today. Thankfully I had changed the email connection for all my important accounts including the one for my blog long time back (hence that one got neglected for days). No major harm was done (as far as I know).
All you bloggers be safe with all your accounts. Beware of spammers.

Autumn has been my favourite season for as long as I can remember having a favourite season. The best thing are the changing hues of nature you get to see around this time. Later I learned that autumn is associated with melancholy since the warm sunny days are gone and a cold white winter waits at its end.

To quote from Keats' "To Autumn" would be a very fitting way to describe autumn

"Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,-
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies."

Ethnic Print

I usually don't wear such prints; not that I don't like them. I really liked this one and went ahead and bought it today only. This is more of a summer wear but I can easily wear it underneath a cardigan. I am in love with red lips and I don't know how many times I have said it here. I wish I had more places to wear it to.

Have a happy weekend all you hard working bloggers! :)

Denim Day

So I have had this skirt in my closet for years. It was always loose and fit real bad but I could never throw it away because I liked the pinkish rust colour. I wore it last night to finally convince myself to give it up but I again decided against it. Plus my weight gain makes this fit better :D

Hope you all having a great week!
