Give Me a Break

I need a break. I know I just got back from a vacation. But I don't mean that kind of break. I am so bored of sitting at home (and occasionally in college while attending classes). I want a job that gives me a creative outlet. At the moment blogging and lookbooking (via the net hence more sitting at home) are my only such outlets. I want to do so much more! I had this brilliant dream last night that I was in L.A. auditioning & giving interviews for jobs. And I hope you do understand what I jobs I was so happy to be trying out for.

Ahh..anyway here goes an outfit post. I wear this top quite often. I use a real basic point & shoot camera and given the fact I take my own photos (without even a tripod) I need to photoshop my photos to make them look decent. I liked the black & white effect on this. I am wearing all black so the idea of the outfit doesn't change. My lips are red though. And I have winged eyeliner.

Don't Give Me No Hand Me Down Love

I have started my Saturday morning by listening to some awesome songs of the Canadian rock band "The Guess Who" (title of today's blog post is courtsey to their song "hand me down world") and Lenny Kravitz.
With a hot cup of tea and few pieces of sausage and eggs for breakfast I am listening to these awesome songs while dangling my feet and staring out at the crispy warm sunshine outside my window.
Then I saw some amazing photos on MisStarShiny's blog and I instantly pinned it on my

Challenges

Sometimes you think of something, some people, some incidents, some memories and your eyes go out of focus, your sight becomes blurry, almost at the point of tearing up. And then you come back. Sometimes you feel nothing but sadness, sorrow, pain. You forget you were ever happy; the memories of a smile seem unreal to you. Do you look for a pick me up then? Or do you revel in your gloomy trips for a bit longer?

The Return

I last blogged 8 days back. That's more than a week! I took a vacation with a few school mates and my best friend and I have been sleeping ever since I came back.
This is a developing resort village called Mandarmani in West Bengal(our state government is considering changing the name from West Bengal to something absolutely meaningless.hope it doesn't happen because as I said it is meaningless). All the hotels lie on the beach and it is argued to be the longest beach one can drive on in India. It was a much needed getaway for us all and this was the first time I went for a vacation without my family or any grown ups with us. So it was fun in a whole different level.

Pop of Colours

I guess one way of wearing my halter neck low back dress (*this one*) on the streets of Calcutta is to wear it this way. I know some of my peers are comfortable wearing shorts and halter necks without being conscious of the lechery but I know my limitations and I can't wear certain outfits here. The crowd matters. I always apply the mantra of dressing according to the time, place & my comfort level.

A dress as a Gift

I will duly do another outfit post along with the 2nd day of the photo challenge.
Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest
We have been best friends since we were 7 years old. If you want to know a portion of the sentiments I have for her refer this page *click*

my best friend and me

This birthday this is what she gave me as a gift (plus a crocheted jacket which is not featured here). I have been trying forever to put up a look with this dress but couldn't think of what to wear it with. The brain as it is quite mysterious ,but this particular brain being mine it is quite is quite slow too. I won't even mention the last disaster I came up with as a look for this dress. Today's photo challenge and this seems to mesh quite alright.

neon orange nails (seen *here* before)
I have bright pink on the toes(not shown here obviously!)

Thank you!
Enjoy
or don't; depends on your mood actually. I am not the kind to force anything on anyone.

On the brand new Banner and Facebook Page

I have been thinking of a banner for my blog for quite long. I even had one at the very beginning. I was not satisfied and it went down of course. Today I was determined to find something that says a bit about me and a bit about this blog. It is after all named "flysongbird". Not every bird can sing. Only a few have the ability and even among them are blessed the ones who are capable of capturing the fancy of us humans.

photo1-from birdorable
photo2-captured and edited by me
photo3-from magpietotem

Haven't you heard of the nightingale?

"O Nightingale! thou surely art
A creature of a "fiery heart":--" hailed by Sir William Wordsworth
The lark?
"With a soul as strong as a mountain River,
Pouring out praise to the Almighty Giver," hailed by Wordsworth again

But I am not entirely like either though they are songbirds; different from those other birds who can fly and rise high till they touch the clouds. I am neither a sparrow nor a swallow not even a mockingbird in toto.
I am like a magpie. Why?
"The magpie's message is that not all things are what they appear to be, and we should not set our judgments in stone. The chatter of the magpie is also a symbolic message that we may need to speak our minds more clearly..." some lines from here.
With striking colouration, the magpie is symbolic of flamboyance, expression, and glamour.

This is a message for us to not hide ourselves away from the world. The magpie beckons us to reveal our brilliance.
And just when we get to know the symbolic meaning of the magpie, she eludes us. She is a symbol of illusion.
Those who believe they have her figured only know half of it. ; Or maybe lesser than that.
They are so far the only birds who recognise themselves in the mirror. Magpies are a symbol of intellect.
Many years back my best friend called me a magpie because I love storing away seemingly unimportant knick knacks. They may be a broken pencil or a sticker or some bauble that reminds me of a long forgotten afternoon - they all hold memories for me. They are a way to remember what is in danger of being forgotten. Sometimes when it is better to let go I discard them from my room, hence discarding the memories and those people in it, from my life.

P.S.- I finally created a facebook page for my blog. *CLICK* to go to page and like it. Thanks to all those who do already :D

Challenges Day 1

Here goes the 1st day of my 30 day challenges.

30 Day Photo Challenge

The following photo was taken by my best friend in my room. It is one of my most favourite photos of me. I love the dark and shadow beside the light; I love that I am only partially visible and that it captures a certain mood of mine.

10 facts about me
1. I love to eat
2. I worship Nigella Lawson
3. I will never forget Alexander McQueen’s passing away
4. I came to love Michael Jackson’s music only after he passed away
5. I don’t watch horror films because they freak the hell out of me
6. I believe in magic
7. I am drawn towards dark and dismal things
8. I can be annoyingly optimistic sometimes
9. I am a heap of contradictions
10. I am a sucker for period romances

30 Day Movie Challenge

Day 01- The best movie you saw during the last year

2010 was full of some amazing films. There were some indie gems from the Bollywood and some blockbuster from Hollywood. If anyone has an imdb account and wants to add me just shoot me a message;we will talk films then.
For the Oscar and BAFTA we saw the battle rage between The Black Swan and The King's Speech. Both were brilliant films. To my displeasure I knew neither Inception nor The Social Network (even Shutter Island) would win. There can be only one winner so I made peace. Tangled and How To Train Your Dragon were the best in animated genre. Winter's Bone and True Grit also lost out in the race. Easy A and Flipped were absolutely marvelous.
Now I am struck by the eternal curse of indecision manifested in Geminis ever so often.
After a lot of deliberation I have decided to stick with Inception for
  1. It was a terrific film no doubt that kept me glued to the edge of the seat
  2. How fascinating is a world where you can actually get inside your mind and live in the world of perfection as long as you want?
  3. It was all about team effort
  4. The cast was fantastic from Leonardo DiCaprio, exceptionallyy beautiful and talented Marion Cotillard, Michael Cain, Cillian Murphy to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Brady
  5. The cinematography, the sound and visual effects were astounding
  6. It was a Nolan film. Need I say more?
  7. Because it was the underdog which couldn't win
  8. Because of the mind game factor
  9. Because we still don't know if Cobb made it back. We have our theories.
  10. Because I believe Cobb came back to his kids and that the top is not spinning anymore

I need to see this again!

30 Day Challenge

I don't know about others but I am someone who is not inspired very easily. I may love something and like something else but inspiration doesn't hit me hard often. Maybe milder stuff bounces off the layers of adipose from my beautiful bootay. I am in 1 of my crazy moods where I often use words like bootay which I don't use in other normal conversations; i.e. as normal my conversations are with the very few people I do talk to in real life.

Anyway long story very short I hunted down some 30 day challenges on the Internet I have zeroed in on 2 I will be indulging in. First one will be an idea from Stevia of  The Sweetest Escape; I shall take part in the 30 day photo challenge and follow these ideas *clickety click me*.
The 2nd challenge that I want to take up is the 30 day movie challenge since I am so in the mood to praise and trash movies like an ostentatious pro; you know those pros who think they know all about movies because of any of the following reasons

a) I have seen obscure films man. All this commercial stuff is so shit.

b) I only watch Fellini, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Pasolini, Antonioni. *I have never made a film or been involved in any great ones myself but I know you know! Hey I do!!* I swear!!

c)Huh!

Yeah just huh! To you, you ignorant bumbling buffoon

d)"It's just who I am. I just know. Cinema is art you know. Everyone doesn't get it. You know."

I am going to fill up this challenge *clickety click again* more in this kind of way

.

*Watch this space for more*   Right now I am busy digging

College Wear

I got this checked top on sale as well and wore it to college a couple of times already. I just layered it with a black pair of leggings and a black v-necked top. I am also wearing a black beaded necklace. Charles & Keith shoes on my pretty weird shaped feet.
Enjoy the weekend.
