Smitten Kitchen Red kidney bean curry and A News

I hope you have heard about Smitten Kitchen(click on this to go to the recipe index page). It has awesome recipes. More than often you can find recipes which are very easy to make even if you are a novice at cooking like I am and the site is very easy to navigate. My best friend suggested this blog since for some reason even if I am a foodie I never looked for a food blog. The reason is that I am too lazy to follow through complicated recipes.
But here is the simple and extremely delicious recipe of red kidney bean curry or as we Indians call it "rajmah".I followed this recipe(click link for photos and details of the various stages). I have been thinking of sharing this recipe on my blog.
Brief summary of how I adapt the recipe(for details head over to the page link on her blog shared above)
  • Heat olive oil in a deep pan.
  • Add grated ginger in the heated oil. This is what flavours the curry.
  • After a minute add chopped onions, garlic, diced tomatoes(with the seeds and juice),green chili chopped(1 or 2 depending on how hot you want it)
  • Add cumin powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder,red chili powder
  • Add salt to taste and reduce this a bit. Cook for 5-6mins till the fragrance of the spices hit your nose.
  • Add tomato sauce
  • Add the boiled rajma(along with the water it was boiled in)
  • Add another cup of water and boiled it.
  • Cook for 10 more mins.
And you are ready to serve.Serve it with roti, rice, bread, parantha.Sometimes I have it without anything else.

Now the news,
I have added a new gadget to my sidebar just below my blog list. It will contain the blog links to all my blog world friends who leave encouraging comments on my blog every time I post something. My way of showing appreciation that you take time out to visit my blog. I will keep adding to the list. I want to thank all those who follow my blog. I have received 500+ comments ever since I started interacting with other bloggers at large since April 2011. Thanks a lot :D. Keep blogging♥

Vera Wang

One of my all time favourite designers is Vera Wang. A designer of such calibre that I don't need to give an introduction. She is a June born. The best guess for her birthday is 27th June 1949. Yes she is going to be 62! I couldn't believe it when i first found out. This woman looks not a day older than 30 to me. OK fine I can stretch it to 40 max!

Here's Vera Wang's S/S 2012 and resort 2012 collection.

The Shaggy haircut , The Choppy layers

"The New Shag" article (in the Vogue India June 2011 issue) provoked me to do this to myself. I have been thinking of getting a haircut. But Freja Beha's photo with the shag which has a rock n roll feel to it just drove me over the edge. She walked the runway last year with this new hairstyle.

Out came my scissors and hairbands, I opened my YouTube channel and searched for a tutorial. I found this amazingly easy video and followed it. I had once done my own bangs before so I was not shaky. I find a cathartic pleasure in chopping of my own hair. It's like taking control. Here is the video

You can wear the shag as you like. The length depends on you. I have thin hair so I wasn't going to use the razor technique. In a salon someone once did it and the result was not good. Anyway I have changed to a better salon now thanks to my best friend. I will wear my layers messy. The shag is the ultimate do nothing haircut and brings in a lot of edge depending on its length and styling. I cut it according to what I thought would look good on my round face.

Vogue and Prints

Leafing through Vogue India June 2011 issue.. What comes out in March in the US, comes to India in June!! Funny, but still we are only 3 months behind rather than years.. It feels good turning over the glossy pages. Quoting Nigel from Devil Wears Prada - " This is a shining beacon of hope for... oh, I don't know..." ... if you have seen it and liked it (irrespective of it actually) I am sure when you heard what he said you nodded your head and agreed or sighed or plain flipped out depending on your situation. I have done it all.

just click on photos to see where i got the photos above.and i agree with what is said there.

Another decade which I love would be the hippie decades which started in 1960's and influenced the 70's as well. I guess my love for these decades mainly comes from the fact that there was some major rule breaking going

Sparkles and Neons and Neutrals

I got inspired by Emily of CupcakesandCashmere and got myself a bottle of sparkly nail coat and Kristina of PrettyShinySparkly inspired me for the whole sparkly mood as well. I had wanted a neon nail colour for so long and finally got one. Then I thought why not participate in the new BloggersDoItBetter challenge! So here is my look for the challenge. I have worn this outfit before and instantly thought of it for this look. I love how versatile this black skirt is and i avoid wearing this top too much since it's very delicate. Also wearing Avon red lipstick mentioned here.

A day at Hushh and Fame Cinema - A Day of Awesomeness

So I did go for that movie marathon in Fame Cinemas in the South City mall, a mall where just about everyone hangs out..seriously. Loved Kung Fu Panda 2.. Those who haven't seen it do yourself a favour and watch it as soon as you can!
As for Hangover 2, I couldn't say the same. It was funny in parts alright, but some scenes were gross and some illogical. Everything followed the pattern of the 1st film. It is due to the main cast that you get the laughs. Zach Galifianakis(did I spell that right?) was the funniest. The dialogues fell flat in places and they seemed to be in a hurry to rush to the end credits where you get to see (like before), what actually happened the night no one could remember. Since I loved the 1st one so much there was never a question of me giving it a miss.

highly recommend this.4.5/5
Other movies I watched this weekend - Citizen Kane |  12 Angry Men

12 angry men
citizen kane
Movies like these were way ahead of their time and their greatness is untouched.

Then we headed for the Hushh lounge bar and ordered our celebratory meal. We were celebrating my birthday. All this got delayed due to the accursed exams. We had the sea food platter from the antipasti section, pollo sausage pizza,a lamb and mushroom dish and a chicken steak in rosemary sauce. I cannot tell you how delicious the food was even though the price is a bit too much for a college student with no job. But hell it was my birthday celebration. I will be going for the pizza again. And definitely the drinks-

cosmopolitan
grey goose vodka
kamikaze
Now I get high with just one drink and after that one I kept acting weird the whole time. So I got no photos of the excellently presented dishes. Sigh! The next time I go to Hushh restaurant I will try to get some.
Finally for dessert we had chocolate pepperoni with melted chocolate on top. And how heavenly that tasted!!
As I mentioned before, I wore this.

Have a sinfully delicious time ahead ;-)

How to -Curly and Voluminous Hair

Michelle's Style File asked for a tutorial on my hair in this post and some others(like Kristina Lennon-fashion's answer to miss marple!) complimented it and commented on it as well(i thank all who did).So here it goes:
1.after washing my hair I let the hair dry out partially so it isn't dripping wet.
2.I divide my hair in two parts(the same way you would for a half up half down hairdo).
3.twist the the upper portion. Then hold it firmly and push it slightly forward to create a pouf.
4.hold it in position and wrap the twisted portion around itself.
5.do the same for the lower portion and secure them with bobby pins.
I know it looks very weird.I love going around the house like this

I left this overnight and before opening it I sprayed some hairspray about 15-20mins ahead of opening.
